Coaching for Self-Actualization: Part I

“The science of psychology has been more successful on the negative than on the positive side  It has been revealed to us much about man’s shortcomings, his illness, his sins, but little about his potentialities, his virtues, his achievable aspirations, or his psychological health. We must find out what psychology might be if it could free itself from the stultifying effects of limited, pessimistic and stingy preoccupations with human nature (Motivation and Personality, 1954, p.354).

In an environment where being a psychologist meant either following a Freudian psychoanalytic path or looking

Metaphors in Coaching

By Paul Kawkabany – https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-kawkabany-b7b2a811a/

From the Greek “metaphora” which means “transport”, the metaphor has several advantages in coaching.  The metaphor is one of the effective means to overcome blocking situations, to support or to bring about change.  It consists of taking a step back from a given situation by working with your imagination.  This tool is of great importance as it creates space for solutions to emerge by working on imagery or a visualization in the form of a metaphor.  It opens other perspectives for the coachee.

The art of metaphor in coaching makes it possible to make

Patience and perseverance lead to success

“The day you plant the seed is NOT the day you eat the fruit. Don’t worry, don’t get frustrated, be persistent. It’s on its way to you.”

That’s a thought that always stays with me in taking my business (or one of my clients’ businesses) to the very next level. Thing is, we’re conditioned through the media that everything is supposed to happen miraculously quickly in our lives:

“Thinner thighs in 30 days”

“Quit smoking in 2 hours”

“Build your list to 30,000 people in 4 months”

“Sell $100,000 worth of products in 2 hours”

Whoa.

Learning Styles

By Paul Kawkabany – https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-kawkabany-b7b2a811a/

Each of us has a primary learning style from which we operate.  We also use all of the styles.  Our learning style, also described as a representational system, is also used for memory and decision making

As you read through the following learning styles, reflect to identify which representational system you employ the most. You may find the results surprising!

Pay particular attention to how they look, how their home looks, and how others look. May find it difficult to

Moving Past Limiting Beliefs

How can you move past limiting beliefs and move forward to a powerful vantage point in life?

Saying the opposite of your negative beliefs in positive language will help you move forward.  Coaches are trained to ask questions to help develop this habit.  Negative messages are out there, and come from ourselves, others, and the media.  Examples of changing the negative to the positive include:

“I’m lazy today and haven’t done anything!” to “I’m doing positive self-care today that will benefit me and my family in the long run.” “I’m worthless.” to “I’m precious (and think about …

Common issues and challenges facing manufacturers in 2021

We can all agree that 2020 was quite the tumultuous year for manufacturing, and for most every other industry out there. We’ve all had to pivot on a dime to accommodate COVID-19 workplace protocols and procedures, and that one change alone hit manufacturing especially hard. When the simple act of getting onto the shop floor for a shift takes more time than ever before (with temperature checks and other procedures), and with fewer people on the job at one time because of distancing measures, productivity numbers go down very quickly. That’s to say nothing of supply chain disruptions,

Language of Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are beliefs that inhibit us from our full potential.  They constrain us by merely thinking them.  Limiting beliefs are about ourselves, our identity, others, or the world in general.

Examples of some common limiting beliefs are simple, everyday statements:

I should/shouldn’t or must/ mustn’t:

We ARE bound by the law.  We are NOT bound by our should or must.  For example, we may say, “I should clean the house every day.”  Saying “should” makes it less likely to happen and we have not broken any laws anyways.  We may

All of my old “stuff” is coming up!

Many people have massive doubt about their ability to do something really big in this world, including myself (until very recently). They wonder whether they have what it takes or whether they’re “good enough.”

I love talking about that great leap of faith, really expanding our vision of what’s possible for our business, for our clients and for ourselves, and ‘Going BIG or Going HOME’. Woo hoo!

But…then all kinds of emotions start to arise when you take that great big leap of faith and step into your purpose, right?

I’ve seen it happen for

Limiting Beliefs

Limiting beliefs are things we say to ourselves based on assumptions and perceptions of our reality.

How does a limiting belief hold us back in life?  We believe what we tell ourselves.  If we tell ourselves we can’t, then we don’t.  If we tell ourselves we should or must we resist the implied external control.

Where do these limiting beliefs come from?  As with other beliefs, they come from our culture, education, familial beliefs, and personal experiences in life.  As we learn and experience, so we believe.

How do we know if we have a limiting belief?  We

The Warehouse of the Future is Being Molded by Technology

When the general public hears the word “warehouse,” they most likely envision a rather low-tech environment. After all, a warehouse is but a large building filled with shelves and boxes, right? That may have been true in the past, but today these facilities are on the cutting edge of technology in a big way.

The demands of e-commerce and the impact it has had on traditional retail have made speed and efficiency absolutely essential. Warehousing is a critical link in the supply chain, and as such it needs to adopt every technological advantage to keep up with consumers’
